Here’s a really quick overview of the system we will be teaching in Self-Publishing Academy.

🤔 So where do you START?

Let’s look at one of the main types of books you could create. We cover additional types in Self-Publishing Academy but this first type offers a good introduction to the industry...

This first type of book can make anywhere between £100 and £500 or more per month in hands-free royalties.

And best of all? You can produce one of these books in 2 weeks or less. These are simple, quick to produce and provide a great return on investment.

We currently have several of these books generating income in our business, and plans to publish a lot more.  

Here’s how you can do this:

Step 1: Research a winning topic – something which is in demand and has acceptable levels of competition. An example might be ‘Maths Practice Activities for 8-9 Year Olds’

Step 2: Create a rough draft of the interior (or have it done for you using a contractor on one of the freelancer sites we recommend such as ‘Upwork’). And give it a catchy title and description.

Step 3: Get the book formatted using easy-to-use software, or a contractor.

Step 4: Create a very simple cover using Canva, or a contractor.

Step 5: Upload the book to Amazon. List it with in-demand keywords to make sure it ranks well and gets seen by prospective buyers.

Congratulations! You’re in businesses

The whole process can take 2 weeks or less once you are familiar with the processes and/or have contactors you can rely on.

And depending on how much of this you do yourself, the costs of producing a book like this can be as little as £50.

And, of course, you don’t just have to make books about ‘maths practice activities’.

You can use this very simple method to quickly create all kinds of education-related, and other non-fiction books. Such as:

✅ Classroom activity books

✅ Practice-at-home books

✅ Fun game and activity books

✅ Simple instructional books on any topic

The list is literally endless!

You could make £500-£3000 per month with a handful of these quick-to-create books. Especially when you add the books to some of the other platforms and distribution channels we recommend. (More about this later).

And remember, once your books are out there on these platforms, the royalty income they generate is automatic. Very little – if any – real work is required to maintain this ongoing income.

It’s not like having a part-time job to supplement your income – you don’t have to trade time for wages and work yourself into an early grave. It’s all very passive once set up – the platform (such as Amazon) does all the selling for you.

You can create a brilliant, stress-free little part-time business with these books. But for those who want to go to the next level...

There are two other main types of book we show you how to create in Self-Publishing Academy.

One takes even less time. You can have this created for around £30 (or create it yourself for free) in a couple of days believe it or not. And some people make a full time income from this type of book alone.

The second type is probably the type of book you associate more commonly with the word 'book'. 

These books take more time and cost more money to produce. But the returns can be much higher.

One of these books generates 6 figures per year for our business. Just one. And I have colleagues in this industry doing much more than that.

We show you how to create all three types of books in Self-Publishing Academy but for now I want to show you about some of the other income streams available once you start creating some of the longer books.

All 3 types of books form the backbone of our business at Life Raft Media and have provided us with a dependable, reliable, largely hands-free income for the last 5 years.

Self-published books have enabled us to maintain our cash-flow even during the times I’ve taken extended breaks from work due to ill health. I have a lot to thank this industry for and I know a lot of people who enjoy an incredible lifestyle because of this business model.

It’s the reason why I have decided to put almost all our time and resources into the publishing side of our business. The potential is huge – it goes way beyond Amazon.

There are LOTS of income streams from ONE book.

First there are the many other publishing platforms aside from Amazon such as Kobo, Apple, Google Books, Barnes and Noble etc. (We show you how to do this in Self-Publishing Academy). They will add to your royalty income. Then there’s Ingram. Uploading your book here (takes about 30 minutes to an hour) opens you up to:

• Book shop sales (book shops won’t buy wholesale from amazon)
• Library sales
• Wholesale of all kinds

For teaching books there are then specific 'Teacher Resource Platforms' which are dedicated to helping teachers earn money by selling resources they have created. There are quite a few of these, the biggest being TeachersPayTeachers, and they all offer another outlet for your work and another source of revenue.

Next comes the sale of foreign rights and translations. This is a very handy income stream requiring virtually no work on your part. Publishers in non-English speaking countries are always on the lookout for new titles. We’re currently in negotiation with Vietnam, Turkey, Spain, France and a few others just as an example. Only recently I finalised a rights package with China giving them simplified Chinese translation rights to some of our books for £12,000. We’ve also sold rights to Korea, Germany and Australia. This is a huge opportunity once you have published even just one title. And as a member of Self-Publishing Academy I’ll give you our contacts.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST. One last piece of the puzzle to maximise the revenue from your books....

Audio Books.

The market for audio books is EXPLODING right now and having your book converted to an audio file takes only a couple of weeks.

You can narrate it yourself (I advise you do) or you can pay a narrator. We provide instructions for creating your audio book, linking it to your paperback and eBook versions and listing it either on Audible or other platforms.
